Claude Laydu (10 March 1927 – 29 July 2011) was Belgian-born French actor.

Laydu was born in Brussels, and had been a theater actor when he was cast as the title priest in Robert Bresson's Diary of a Country Priest[1] in 1950. For roughly the next decade, Laydu worked in film steadily until 1963's Mafia alla sbarra. His only two film projects after that were Le Destin de Priscilla Davies in 1979 and Nounours in 1995, which he cowrote with Christine Laydu. Laydu died 29 July 2011 in Paris of a heart condition.[2]

"The embarrassingly self-conscious Priest of Ambricourt (Claude Laydu) in Diary of a Country Priest (1951, Robert Bresson) who acted more like death warmed up than a vibrant servant of the Lord, no doubt, partially due to his growing stomach cancer. Even his faith, the celebration of the Liturgy of the Hours and the sacraments were of no comfort to him."
